Members of Kansas Authors’ Club District 7 met April 17th, 2021 at the Clarion Inn Convention Center, 1911 E. Kansas Ave., Garden City, KS. The following members were present: President Frank Powers, Gove, KS; John Sanders, Colby, KS; Treasurer Sheryl Brenn, Colby, KS; Joe Wessel, Satanta, KS; Secretary Sheree L. Wingo, St. Francis, KS; Vice Pres. George Phillippy, Syracuse, KS. Guests were: Ferol Powers, Larry Brenn, and Steven Flowers and special guest speaker Janice Northerns, Liberal, KS.
We all ordered lunch off the menu and visited before the program. Janice Northerns read from her new book “Some Electric Hum” and explained her writing style. Her poems do not rhyme. They are free verse. She also gave the stories behind her poems. A question and answer session followed her presentation. She had several copies of her book that various members then purchased.
Other business: Sheryl gave a Treasurer’s report. We have more money in our account than we have ever had!
Reading: Sheryl and Frank both read stories. Sheree had laryngitis so Sheryl read
her offering “God’s Plan” about a 15 year-old boy recently killed in a car accident in her town.
Writing Contest: Sheryl talked about our D7 writing contest. The theme is “Writing Through Difficulties”. It will run from May 15 through August 15th.
Meeting Adjourned. Next meeting will be in Colby at the Library May 4.
Sheree Wingo, Secretary
